It will be another remarkable year for the film industry as the 22nd Singapore International Film Festival (SIFF) will take place on April 14-25, 2009. There was an overwhelming response of about 1056 entries for this year’s SIFF however only 193 films from 34 countries were shortlisted.
It is quite a range of selected movies that exhibit audacity and award-winning performance and cinematography. This year also SIFF launches late night weekend and open-air screenings.
Few highlight of the events will include 2 tributes to honor the 25th Year of the Thai National Film Archive and the Amos Gitai Retrospective. Opening film this year is ‘Sincerely Yours’ from a first-time Taiwanese director Rich Lee while the closing film is ‘Milk’ from Turkey. These are only few of the drooling must-watch films that feature creativity, distinctiveness and brilliance in the art of cinematography.
SIFF was initially launched in 1987 aiming to promote film as an artistic medium, to provide the opportunity to audiences to view films not otherwise released commercially, to pave the way for Singapore film industry and provide an international showcase for Asian Cinema.
Known as the largest international film festival in Singapore, SIFF has three major awards to honor excellence and brilliant contributions to the film making industry. Selected entries can vie for Asian Film Competition, Singapore Short Film Competition and the New Singapore Film Awards.
